Character Design

A collection of personal and production designs exploring silhouette, shape language, and personality. I emphasize clarity, appeal, and gesture in every design.

Ivy - Lead Character

Mischievous, curious, and full of wonder - Ivy was designed for a 1970s suburban setting. I focused on warm palettes, circular shapes, and contrast in silhouette.

  • Focus: Shape language & appeal

  • Deliverables: Expressions, turnarounds, color studies.

Luigi - Supporting Character

Once an ordinary cat, now cursed with speech after one of Grandpa Murph’s spells gone wrong, Luigi has made it his mission to expose Ivy’s magical family secrets. His design plays off Ivy’s - Where she’s darker and round, he’s sharp and moody.

  • Focus: Personality contrast & character pairing

  • Deliverables: Expressions, turnarounds, attitude poses

Once a powerful and respected wizard, Grandpa Murph now hides his magic from his daughter, practicing in secret whenever he can. His design balances warmth and eccentricity - soft shapes for his kind side, jagged details to hint at the chaos of his spells.

  • Focus: Personality & visual contrast

  • Deliverables: Expressions, turnarounds, prop studies

Grandpa Murph- Supporting Character

An interstellar bounty hunter and his sidekick.

  • Final: Costume exploration, turnarounds and sidekick

  • Deliverables: Explorations of figure, bust and color pallets.

Kaeru-47

The Deer dancer concept began as a class assignment. It is a personal piece as it relates to my own culture. The dancer, however, is usually male and I decided to change things up and create a female dancer instead.

  • Bust thumbnails and full thumbnails to explore gesture, costume and overall composition.

  • Deliverables: A few final rendered pieces exploring different inking styles.

The Deer Dancer

A quick sketch of Fester Addams aka Mr. Debbie and final rendered piece, that later turned into a turnaround of Debbie.

A few other designs

Turnarounds for Debbie, from The Addams Family Values.

A friendly giant, Yori.

Carl, a swamp creature from the Everglades.
